Work Day

I'm sick, but can't take a day off before a scheduled holiday, so today we're having a work day. Please do the following:

1. Complete and turn in Kinematics Word Problems - I didn't get many of these on time!
2. Get your graded work out of the cubbies
3. Turn in anything that's missing (I'll hand out missing assignment reports)
4. Correct papers and highlight your new answers!

Independence of x and y

Don't believe me? Watch this clip of MythBusters.  Then check out these short notes:

And look!  If you want to shoot a monkey that will drop from rest when the gun goes off, you need to aim AT the monkey.  The bullet will fall too!

Kinematics Story Problems Practice

First I ranted about my supplies being missing. Then we did this bellwork:
The rest of the period was work time for Kinematics Word Problems (Conceptual, Honors).

Kinematic Equations Continued

First we did a bellwork that mimics the back of last night's homework:
The rest of the period was work time to finish Concept-Development 2-1 (due today) and start Concept-Development 2-2 (Due Monday).

Kinematics Equations

Today we used your lab results as a jumping off point for the three kinematics equations we'll be using (blue). Your homework is to start Concept Development 2-1, which we will finish tomorrow.

Free Fall Lab

Today (Wednesday for period 4 and 6) we completed a lab in which we dropped a ball from different heights and timed the fall. We then graphed height vs. time. Here's the bellwork:

This Week in Review

First we spent bellwork explaining how to do the back of last night's homework. That is due today.
Next we worked on a bunch of problems that span everything we learned this week. This is due on Monday:

Velocity

Building from our lab, today we talked a little more about velocity. We also have homework and we will be going over the problem on the back (last photo) tomorrow for belllwork. Have the front (People on Trains) done tonight and at least try the back.

Graphs of Motion Lab

Today (Wednesday for periods 4 and 6) we are completing a lab in which we use Vernier equipment to graph our position vs. time. We then used our results to define some things about velocity.

Lab Setup
The lab itself was a file too large for Google Drive, so I took pictures of it and put them below.

No homework tonight.

Distance vs. Displacement

No homework tonight.

Units and Math Review Continued

Today we used bellwork to go over a method of converting between metric prefixes. The rest of the time was yours to finish yesterday's worksheet (Conceptual, Honors).

Units and Math Review

Today we are reviewing the metric system prefixes and practicing conversions and algebra. We will finish tomorrow. Below are the bellwork and notes. The worksheet we started can be found at the following links: Conceptual, Honors.

Still Doing Introductions

Periods 1, 3, and 5 were yesterday and periods 4 and 6 are today, but you are both doing the same thing. Here's the agenda:

1. Seating Chart! Please sit in your correct seat to help me learn your names and take attendance
2. Turn in your safety contract. There is NO QUIZ on this because I needed time for...
3. Pre-Test! I found out on Monday that you need to take a pre-test. We'll take it again at the end of the year. The pre-test does NOT affect your grade (100% for just taking it).
4. Fire evacuation practice. We just walk out to the meet-up point during evacuations.
5. Observations vs. Inferences activity. A short activity to review the difference between observations and inferences. Points for participating but nothing to turn in.

No homework for tonight. On Thursday we start our physics content!

Welcome!

Welcome to a new year! Your homework tonight is to read the syllabus and the safety contract and get the safety contract signed. There will be a quiz on the safety contract next class.
