Honors: Kinematics Study Guide

Study guide work time today and Monday! Test Tuesday!

Conceptual: Solving Kinematics Word Problems

Conceptual: More Kinematics Equations Practice

First we went over some of yesterday's problems as bellwork. The rest of the period was spent with more practice in the form of Concept-Development 2-2.

Conceptual: Kinematics Equations

Honors: 2-D Kinematics Practice

Today we quickly finished yesterday's example (see yesterday's post for a better picture of the right side) then had work time to practice with Kinematics Word Problems II.

Honors: Solving 2-Dimensional Kinematics Problems

We didn't quite finish, but here's how far we got. We will finish tomorrow.

Conceptual: Graphs of Motion part II

First we finished yesterday's notes, then we used our new-found motion graphing skills to complete Graphs of Motion. Due tomorrow.

Honors: Vector Components

Bellwork and notes, followed by homework.

Graphs of Motion part I

We will be finishing this and getting homework tomorrow.

Work Day

Today is a work day for everyone. I will be checking last week's stamp count for the conceptual classes and we will be counting stamps and checking them in the honors classes. Please get missing work turned in and graded work corrected.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Conceptual: Signs of x, v, a

First, some bellwork to help with last night's homework. The instructions are the same as Acceleration II; I just didn't write it all on the board.

Then we practiced finding the signs of position, velocity, and acceleration for a ball thrown straight up in the air.

No homework tonight.

Honors: Adding Vectors Graphically

I gave you some prepared notes on the graphical methods of adding vectors, but below are some overhead notes:

Homework: Concept-Development 3-2

Honors: Independence of x and y

Don't believe me? Watch this clip of MythBusters.  Then check out these short notes:

And look!  If you want to shoot a monkey that will drop from rest when the gun goes off, you need to aim AT the monkey.  The bullet will fall too!

Conceptual: Velocity Practice and Acceleration Intro

Bellwork followed by some notes:

Homework tonight are Ranking Tasks Velocity II and Acceleration II.

Honors: Free Fall Lab Work Day

Today is your last chance to take data for the Free Fall lab. You may also use the day to graph your data and work on the analysis questions. The lab is due Monday.

Conceptual: Velocity and Relativity

Homework: Ranking Tasks People on Trains and Velocity I

Honors: Guests and Physics Phun!

Today we are privileged to have some guests from the University of Arizona doing physics outreach and demonstrations. I am not entirely sure what they are bringing, but there will be stations on the topics of mechanics, optics, E&M, and thermodynamics.

Many thanks to Maxwell Gregoire, Carter-Thaxton (CT) Smith, Amanda Walker-LaFollette, and Bernardo Jimenez!

Conceptual: Position and Speed

And so begins our kinematics unit. Most students from previous years have told me that this is the most difficult unit because we use quite a lot of math. First, some bellwork:

And notes:

Homework is Kinematics I, due tomorrow.

Honors: Free Fall Lab Continued

First, we will go over how to make a graph, trendline, and R-squared value on Microspft Excel or Open Office. The rest of the day is yours to finish taking data. We will have some guests from the UA tomorrow, but if you need more time to take data on Friday it will be available too.

Conceptual: Unit 5 Test!

Today is your test on nuclear physics. You are allowed your periodic table in addition to your notecard for this test.

Honors: Free Fall Lab

Today we started a lab to determine the position of a ball dropped from rest. We will work on this tomorrow as well.

Free Fall Lab

Conceptual: Unit 5 Study Guide

This is your day to work on the study guide, which you received on Friday. Study guide and its answers are below. Test is tomorrow.
