Conservation of Charge and Charging By Friction

Homework: Electrostatics I. The printers have been down all week so you had to copy this onto your own paper. You can also click on that link and print out the GoogleDoc.

EDIT: Printing resumed during ECAP, so only 2nd period did not get copies of the homework.

Power and Energy Study Guide

Please turn in your Pulley Lab by the end of the day. For bellwork we talked very briefly about power.

Your test for the energy unit will be on Wednesday - IF YOU ACTUALLY USE MONDAY AND TUESDAY TO WORK ON PHYSICS. If you goof off on Monday, that will show me that you don't need the class time for work and the test will be Tuesday. Below are the study guides and answers.

Conceptual Energy Study Guide
Honors Energy Study Guide
There is a #8 on the back of both of these, but it is hand-drawn. You can see it and its answers below.
I just got a new video camera. I decided to try it out by solving #8 on the board...so here's the video.

Pulley Lab Continued

We're still working on the pulley lab, but we paused for a few minutes to do a bellwork that will help you in the back.

Honors: Pulley Lab

Today we are starting a lab: Pulley Lab. You will have several days to complete this.

Honors: Machines

Bellwork and notes below. Keep in mind, those notes are for an ideal machine - no friction. Homework tonight is Machines I.

Extra Credit Opportunities! - Repost

Tomorrow is the Tucson Festival of Books. During the Festival, the UA Department of Physics is having its second Physics Open Day with free tours of labs and a talk about the Higgs Boson. I encourage you to attend both the Festival of Books and the Physics Open Day, and I will give you extra credit if you take a physics tour and write a paragraph about it - what happened and what you think. Since there are four tours available, you can do four extra credits!

Next Thursday, March 14th is Pi Day! The Loft Cinema is showing the movie Pi on the big screen, followed by a discussion of pi with two UA math professors. Plus, you do not have school the next day! To get extra credit for attending, write a paragraph reflecting on your thoughts about the movie and discussion and attach your movie ticket. Tickets are about $9.00 or $7.00 for students with ID. The movie is rated R, so if you're under 17 you'll have to bring a parent. It starts at 7, but you should get there early as I think this might sell out.

Conceptual: Time!

We were supposed to start a lab today, but I'm out sick. So instead you are completing the packet called Time! I made this because so many of you use the excuse of "checking the time" when I catch you with your phone out. When I point to the clock on the wall, you say you don't know how to read it. So today you're going to practice reading analog clocks. You're welcome.

Yes, this is worth points. Due Monday.

Honors: Energy Conservation Example: Roller Coasters!

I'm out today, but here is the bellwork we would have done and the homework you are working on.
