Lens Lab

Today we are completing your Lens Lab (see yesterday's post). You will also receive you study guide for your test on Tuesday. Monday will be a work day.

Lens Lab Setup

Today we got ready for the lab we are doing tomorrow, shown below. If you have long hair, please bring something with which to tie back your hair; we will be using candles and I do not want your hair to get singed accidentally.

Conceptual: Reflection and Refraction Practice

The was no bellwork today so that you could have as much time as possible to work on missing assignments or Reflection and Refraction Practice. This is a lot like your test (which is next Tuesday) and is due tomorrow.

Honors: Reflection and Refraction Practice

First, a little more about the eye and how nearsighted and farsighted vision works.

The rest of the day was yours to work on Reflection and Refraction Practice. Make sure you got the Honors version. This is due tomorrow.

 Today we finished the notes on lens ray diagrams. Tonight's homework is Concept-Development 30-2.

Today we started drawing lens ray diagrams. We will finish these tomorrow. Homework tonight is Concept-Development 29-4. This is NOT the same Concept-Development 29-4 that the regular classes already had. Make sure you get the right one.

Honors: Lenses

Due to the pep assembly today, we were missing about half of the students. Therefore we did not have bellwork. We had time to work on yesterday's lab and fill in these notes about lenses:

No homework this weekend. Bring a ruler and three different colors of writing utensils on Monday.

Honors: Finding Index of Refraction of Acrylic

First we did a bellwork to make last night's homework a little more clear:

Then we looked at a couple of demonstrations of total internal reflection. I took some (bad) video of one demo; the video is here.

Finally, we worked on Refraction Lab: Index of Refraction of Acrylic. Keep in mind there was a rectangle on the front where you took your data that does not show up in this link. This lab is due tomorrow.

Conceptual: Lenses

First we used bellwork to make last night's homework a little more clear.







Then we used our light sources and some small plastic lenses to discover how convex and concave lenses affect light.

Conceptual: Total Internal Reflection

Bellwork and notes below. We also saw a demonstration of total internal reflection in a stream of water. I tried to take video of it...though I did not do a great job. The video is here. Homework tonight is Concept-Development 29-4.

Honors: Snell's Law and Total Internal Reflection

Homework is Total Internal Reflection. Tomorrow we will complete a short lab using Snell's Law.

Curved Mirrors II

Today we finished Mirror Lab II, which is due tomorrow. For bellwork we basically went over the front page of this lab.

Curved Mirrors I

Today we started exploring curved mirrors. We began Mirror Lab II: Curved Mirrors, which we will finish on Monday.

What Can You See In a Mirror?

Today we learned a trick to determine what is visible in a mirror and what is not. We practiced this trick on Concept-Development 29-2, which is due tomorrow.

Law of Reflection Practice

Please turn in yesterday's lab. Tonight's homework is Concept-Development 29-1.

Lab: Law of Reflection

Today we completed a small lab to discover the Law of Reflection. We will practice using this Law tomorrow and the lab is due tomorrow.

Optics Introduction

Today we reviewed how to use a protractor and learned what "normal" really means. These will be very helpful in our new unit: geometric optics.

Most people finished their homework in class, but it is also below - Angles and Normals .

Also PLEASE buy yourself a protractor! I only have 10 for the whole class!

Today Conceptual Physics is taking its Unit II Test: Light. Honors Physics is taking its first test, which covers waves, sound, and light.

Today and tomorrow you may use class time to work on the study guide and make your note card for the test on Friday. Below are some abridged answers to check against - blue for Conceptual and pink for Honors.
